Services

P&B are qualified arborists who have undergone specialised training to help you get more out of your trees and garden.

Whether you require advice, tree surgery, tree pruning, tree reports, small planting schemes, stump removal or an emergency call out service, P&B are accomplished to complete the task.

P&B have a large array of the latest equipment required by law to ensure the work carried out is the safest and most cost efficient.

We can carry out all aspects of work relating to trees include;

Dismantling

P&B carry out dismantling operations in a variety of situations. The removal of trees in urban areas is highly skilled and potentially dangerous. It is rare that a tree can be straight felled and usually there are obstacles in the vicinity of the tree such as houses, garages, vehicles, pedestrians and greenhouses which require the tree to be carefully and safely dismantled. Using the correct industry techniques complying with the British Standard (2010), we are able to undertake these tasks safely and with the minimum of disruption.

Tree reductions

Reductions and pruning are all carried out to the industry standard BS3998:2010 and is in accordance with modern pruning techniques and research. We will prune sensitively and ensure that your tree remains in good health after the work is completed. We carry out all forms of pruning.

Crown lifting

This is the removal of the lower branches leaving the crown of the tree, creating the effect of the tree canopy being raised upwards. Good practice dictates crown lifting should not normally include the removal of large branches growing directly from the trunk as this may cause large wounds which could harm the longevity of the tree.  Common reasons for crown lifting are to bring more light and give access for traffic.

Crown thinning

Crown thinning is the removal of the smaller branches within the crown of the tree to reduce density. Crown thinning does not alter the overall size or shape of the tree. Reasons for crown thinning are to allow more light to pass through the tree, reduce wind resistance or to reduce the weight of heavy branches.

Crown reduction

Crown reduction is used to reduce the height and spread of the crown by the removal of the tips of branches whilst maintaining the tree’s natural shape as much as possible.

Dead wooding/Crown Cleaning

Dead trees and branches are unpredictable and can break and fall at any time. Dead wood is often dry and brittle and cannot bend in the wind like a living tree or branch. This makes it especially dangerous in stormy conditions. The process of dead wooding is to clear a tree of all dead branches and also potentially dangerous branches. Running simultaneously with this is the process of removing branches that have weaknesses or crossing others as in time these branches will die, this process is called crown cleaning.

Pollarding

This is an ancient and traditional technique and is still commonly used today. It is the removal of all branches from the trunk.  Depending on the species, mature trees that have not previously been pollarded are generally not suitable for this type of pruning as it would create large wounds that could destroy the tree’s future development.

Felling

Tree felling is the process of completely removing a tree. It can be a very difficult process depending on the surroundings. It therefore requires the specialist knowledge, tree felling techniques and equipment of a qualified tree feller. The specific cuts made to a tree are so that a tree can be felled in a controlled and safe manner (The arrow in the photo shows the ‘hinge’ created from a correctly felled tree. This allows the person felling the tree to bring it down safely in whichever direction is required). P&B are able to provide tree felling in large-scale development projects, built-up urban areas and one-off domestic projects.

Hedge cutting

P&B can manage hedges of any size. We are happy to trim small ornamental hedges to large conifer hedges while still taking the care to ensure the hedge is aesthetically pleasing. We are happy to provide a one off service to reduce the height and width of a hedge, so that the hedge owner can comfortably maintain their hedge thereafter. Or we can also provide a fixed price contracted service to keep your hedge managed throughout the year.

Emergencies
Site clearance

We have worked with some large commercial clients to carry out site clearance projects in a safe, quick and efficient way. We can also provide residential site clearance which removes unwanted trees, stumps and hedging.

P&B are available to you on a 24-hour emergency service for trees that have failed during adverse weather conditions and resulted in damage to your home and/or garden property. We are able to get to your property as quickly as possible to address the situation and advise from there. Even if your trees do not show obvious damage after adverse weather conditions, it is important to have your trees inspected regularly for symptoms that could lead to later problems.
